キュートなポップスで話題沸騰中のザ・ティン・ティンズがApple Store Shibuyaでインストアライブを行った。この日のライブはアコースティック・セットで「Shut Up And Let Me Go」「That’s not my name」を含むヒット曲３曲を披露。いつものロックパンクの激しいライブとは一転、落ち着いたライブにお客さんも満足した様子だった。

思わず口ずさんでしまうメロディと、一度聞いたら忘れない強烈なリリック。「Shut Up And Let Me Go」が今年の４月よりiPod + iTunes CMソングに抜擢され、全世界から注目を集めている彼ら。すでに本国UKではアルバム、シングル共にナショナル・チャートで初登場ＮＯ.１を記録している。ザ・ティン・ティンズという名前はもはや世界中に浸透しつつあるが、このユニット名の由来は？との質問に、「知り合いの中国人女性の名前からつけたの」とケイティ。ジュールズからすかさず、「ひらめいたときのティン！という音、鈴の音、あと、ヘッドマッサージとかね（笑）」とDIY的なアイディアがとびかう。

小柄で透き通る肌が印象的なケイティ。セルフリッジで働いていたこともある彼女のファッションセンスも注目だ。今年２月にニューヨークで行われたファッション・ウィークでは、BETSEY　JOHNSON や DOLCE&GABBANA がランナウェイでザ・ティン・ティンズの曲をフィーチャーし、ファッション界からも熱烈な支持を得ている。この日のファッションは、ストローハット、ストライプシャツ、青のレギンスにショートパンツとトップショップのブーツ。カジュアルで小綺麗なスタイルが、好感度をさそう秘訣だ。

自分ワールドをしっかりもち、どことなく不思議だが、ほっとさせてくれる一面も持つ、超期待の新人ユニット。彼らの音楽やライフスタイルから垣間見える魅力に、いつの間にか、ザ・ティン・ティンズのワールドに引き込まれる。
歌はもちろん、インタビューからも、自分たちのワークにはつねに真剣に取り込んでいる様子が伝わってくる。自分たちが好きなことをやる、好きだからやる、それがザ・ティン・ティンズなのだ。

２００９年の来日もすでに決まっているそう。前日はサマーソニックに参加し、この日はライブと数本の取材をこなす超多忙な二人。今回の来日は忙しくて、まだ日本を堪能してないそうだが、二人とも渋谷の街にはエキサイティングしていた様子であった。

The Ting Tings who are in the hottest rise, had an in store live performance event at Apple Store Shibuya in Tokyo, Japan. They performed three hit tunes including “Shut Up And Let Me Go”, “That’s not my name” with an acoustic set. Fans seemed to be happy with this mellow live performance, because it was different style from their usual extreme punk rocks.

The melody is very catchy, and lyrics are so strong that nobody can forget them. “Shut Up And Let Me Go” was chosen as the CM song for iPod + iTunes on this April. It has leaded them to gain a lot of attention and popularity growth. In their native country, UK, both their album and singles has entered the national chart at the top.

The name of The Ting Tings has already been penetrating all over the world. For a question “How do you name it?”, Katie said,” It was from my Chinese friend”, and Jules came in pat, “ It was from a sound of invention, bells or head massages, and so on…”. It was like ideas of DIY fling.

Katie gave us an impression with cute and sheer skin. She worked at Selfridges, so her fashion style is also noticeable. BETSEY JOHNSON and DOLCE&GABBANA used their songs for a runway in New York Fashion Week. They have been gotten enthusiastic supports by a fashion industry. On the day, she was with a straw hat, a striped shirt, a blue legging＋a short pant, and a boot from topshop. Her casual and nice-looking style is a secret of popularity as well. The expected new unit who holds their own world, somehow mysterious, but sometimes they made feel us familiar to them. We get sucked in The Ting Tings’ world unconsciously by an attraction glimpsed from their music and lifestyle. It comes through from their songs and also interviews that they always work seriously. “Do what we like. Do it because we like it.” This is The Ting Tings style. The date when their coming to Japan in 2009 was already scheduled. They have been very busy to have performed in Summer Sonic the previous day, have a live, and do some interviews on the day. They haven’t really enjoyed staying Japan yet in this time, however they seemed to feel excited in the big city of Shibuya.
