California-based high-end jeans label Rock and Republic Enterprise, Inc. filed for bankruptcy on April 1st . The brand’s line at one time included Victoria Beckham Crown Jeans, which were priced at $500 a pair. Despite the high price tag, they sold like hotcakes in Japan. When Beckham, a.k.a. Posh-spice, visited Japan in 2005 in order to promote the jeans, we produced an elaborate event for her at Velours in Omotesando. The brand still has a following, with big celebrities attending their last New York fashion show, but financial difficulties have forced the company to cut such events since last February. Rock and Republic will continue to operate as it restructures and reorganizes under bankruptcy protection. Going forward, the company will probably focus on its main businesses in apparel and shoes.
