イスラエル発の人気コスメブランド「サボン」が銀座松屋通りに本日路面店をオープン。昨日はプレオープニングに行ってきました。

NYでは数年も前から人気でよく通っていたけれど、今回日本のサボンのお店に行くのは始めてでした。松屋通りを抜けてお店に着くと外にはすでにたくさんの人だかり！列を並んでいると、乙女でガーリーなウィンドウがとても目を惹いた。NYのショップはガーリーな要素がほとんど皆無で、シンプルでナチュラルな雰囲気だから、日本の女性ってやはり可愛いスタイルを好む傾向にあるみたい。

2階までの吹き抜け空間がスタイリッシュでコージー。ライティングを上手く利用して商品の色を見せるVMDが印象的だった。その中でもレジの奥の2階分ある大きなディスプレイがとても素敵でした。また、同じ商品でもフレイバーによって異なるカラーを強調して商品を見せる点は、顧客に合った商品を毎回提供できる要素となり、確実に購買へと繋がる工夫がなされている。

VMD、パッケージ、商品の見せ方から見て取れるように、サボンの様にブランドのオリジナルコンセプトを崩さずに日本独自のブランディングを行うことが、ブランドビジネスには不可欠であるという事を改めて実感した。2008年に日本に上陸してから、3年で13店舗のお店をオープンしたサボンの成功の秘訣はここにあるのだろう。

It’s the fourth day after The Great Tohoku Kanto Earthquake.

On March 11, I am in Japan, and the earthquake disaster hit the eastern side. I was on the fourth floor in a building at Shinjuku, Tokyo; Feeling the powerful shock that I’ve never experienced before in my life. Even more, I could have never imagined that more terrible things would take place in the Tohoku area and coastal lines of Kanto at that time.

According to the metropolitan police department, more than 1,880 people are killed, 4,225 are missing, and unbelievable amount of 520 thousand people are evacuated. I’ve watched news every day after the earthquake and tsunami, and it brings a lump to my throat.

In the earthquake-devastated Minamisanriku, Miyagi, the fate of about 9,500 remains unknown out of a population of 19,500. Mayor Jin Sato who survived in the tough situation, held a press conferences on 14th. An article vividly covered the story of the mayor, which was very impressive.

“The wave over my head went back and forth several times.” When the Tsunami arrived, the mayor was at the Disaster Reduction center which is located next to the building of the local government. The wave swallowed the 3-story building. He managed to escape, and about 20 employees who were at a roof terrace and indoor; whom were later flown, and 10 people remained. That night, survivors warmed up with lighting up driftwood, and “huddled and cheered up together”, he said with tears. (from Yahoo Japan News)

This city continued to conduct evacuation drills learned from Chile Earthquake Tsunami. But an envisioned height of tsunami was 5.5 meters as the same height of the Chile Earthquake’s, but the tsunami this time was about 11 meters, which was even higher than the building of local government. “We only could assume the scale.” The mayor told in a chagrined tone.

No one could predict the powerful earthquake and tsunami. What I feel is only anger and sadness of turning peaceful and beautiful seaport towns and people to the hell. 東北関東大震災から4日目。3月11日、1年ぶりの日本帰国中に東日本で震災が起きました。東京の新宿にある建物の４階にいた私もこの時凄まじい揺 れを感じました。しかし、東北地方と関東沿岸でさらに最悪な事態に陥っているとはこの時全く思いませんでした。警視庁のまとめによると、現在死者は 1,886人、行方不明者を合わせると4,255人となり、避難生活者はなんと52万といいます。私も地震発生後からテレビや新聞を毎日の様に見ています が、犠牲者の数が刻々と増えていくのを見ると胸があつくなります。

今回膨大な被害を受けた宮城県の南三陸町は、人口1万9500人のうち、約9,500人がいまだ安否不明のままとなっている。その状況の中で一命を取り留めた佐藤仁町長が14日記者会見を行い、当時の様子を生生しく語った記事がとても印象的だった。

「自分の頭を超える波が、何回も行ったり来たりした。」津波到達時、町長は役場本庁舎隣の防災センターにいた。波は3階建ての建物を丸ごとのみ込ん だ。屋上につながる手すりに必死にしがみつき難を逃れたが、屋上や屋内にいた職員約20人は流され、残ったのは10人だけだった。その晩は建物に絡まった 流木にライターで火を付けて暖を取り、「体を寄せ合い、励まし合いながら頑張った」と声を詰まらせた。(Yahoo Japanニュースより)

また、この町では41人が犠牲になった1960年のチリ地震の津波を教訓に、毎年住民の避難訓練を続けてきたという。ただ、想定していたた津波は当 時の高さ5.5メートルで、今回の波は高さ約11メートルの庁舎を超えていた。町長は「それだけの規模しか想定できなかった」と悔しそうに話していたとい う。

誰もが予想しなかった巨大地震とそれによる津波。とにかく今感じる事は、穏やかで美しい港町と人々を一瞬にして地獄へと導いた事への怒りと悲しみ。 海外からの支援の申し出は昨日までで計88国／地域、6国際機関となった。いまは一人でも多くの命が助かってくれる事をただ祈るのみです。

宮城県南三陸町 Minami sanriku in Miyagi

I found cute styles from fashionable models at backstage and on the runway at  ‘Asia Girls Explosion.’

The fashion show was unique and featured fashion in order of time period between 1940 to the present. This created an atmosphere wherefore those attending could travel back in time and enjoy the different eras of fashion.

YOSHIKIMONO designed by Yoshiki from X JAPAN made an appearance on the runway. Bold designs such as short lengths or plunging necks applied to traditional Japanese clothes remained the essential elements of the ‘visual kei.’ The piece completed a perfect blending of Japanese and Western styles showcasing the bright colors and tastes of traditional kimonos.

In addition, fashion label ‘Kitgirl’ derected by Olivia Palermo, a popular socialite from NYC unveiled at this event. Her collection constructed with black and white colors and emphasized a glamourous style.

Shenae Grimes wore the adorable wedge shoes at backstage. Her black lace mini-dress and gold pendant style was the perfect balance for her petite size.

Japanese fashion is often misrepresented in New York and other countries. However, I was impressed by this event due to the accuracy in which the ‘gal’ style trend of the late 90s was portrayed. There may be only one way to express Japanese fashion correctly when the place is Tokyo and Japanese organized events such as ASIA GIRLS EXPLOSION. I expect that the Japanese fashion world should become more proactive in showcasing this type of fashion so that the rest of the world may have the chance to see it.

「ASIA GIRLS EXPLOSION」のバックステージとランウェイでお洒落なモデルをキャッチ！

1940-2010年代のファッションが年代別に登場したユニークなファッションショーに会場はタイムスリップした雰囲気に包まれ、訪れていた観客はその異次元の世界を楽しんでいた。

Yoshikiが着物デザインを手掛けるYOSHIKIMONOがこの日ランウェイに登場。膝上までの短い丈や胸が大きく開いた過激なデザインがビジュアル系の要素を残しつつ、着物独特の鮮やかな色合いや風情は健在しており、和洋折衷の見事な作品となっていた。

また、NYで人気のソーシャルライツ、Olivia Palermoがファッションディレクションをするkitgirlが世界初公開となった。白と黒で統一したコレクションは、大胆なカットやレース、チュール、スパンコールなどの素材で華やかさを強調する。

バックステージではShenae Grimes がレオパードの可愛いウエッジを履いていたのでパパラッチ。黒のレースミニ丈ドレスと、ゴールドのペンダントを合わせたスタイリングがシェネイの小柄な体型とマッチして可愛さ満点！

ニューヨークを始め世界中で日本ファッションはしばしば誤解されて伝えられがちだ。しかし、今回90年代後半に流行した女子中高生の制服ギャルを 如実に表現していたのには感動した。東京という場所、日本人が主体となって開催した今回の様なイベントにおいて、日本ファッションを正確に表現する事が唯一可能なのではないかと思う。これからは、他国が日本ファッションを真似したり取り入れたりするだけではなく、ASIA GIRLS EXPLOSIONの様に日本側が中心となり世界に向けて日本のファッションを発信をしていく事をもっと行うべきではないかと思う。
